Australian-first simulation at Westmead
An Australian-first 24-hour simulation was held last week at Westmead, leading the way in Australia’s preparedness for the identification and treatment of high consequence infectious diseases (HCID).
The simulation was held at the NSW Biocontainment Centre at the Westmead Health Precinct, bringing together staff from WSLHD and SCHN.
Mary Wyer is an Associate Professor of Practice in Biocontainment and led the research in partnership with the University of Sydney.
“We were aware that working in an unfamiliar environment and caring for patients with high-consequence infectious diseases (HCID) can be very stressful. This stress can impact both staff and patient safety,” Mary said.
