Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD)

WSLHD is a leader in clinical services, research, and education providing a diverse range of public healthcare to more than 946,000 residents in Sydney’s west. Overall, WSLHD employs more than 13,000 dedicated people across five hospitals and several community health centres, with around 8,000 based at Westmead alone.

Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (SCHN)

SCHN is Australia’s largest provider of health services for children and young people. It comprises The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, Kids Research, Newborn and paediatric Emergency Transport Service (NETS), Bear Cottage and the Children’s Court Clinic. At Westmead, The Children’s Hospital at Westmead has a proud legacy of embedding research into the fabric of paediatric care and enabling opportunities for researchers to work holistically alongside frontline medical teams.

Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI)

Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI) performs cutting-edge research to find effective treatments for serious childhood illnesses, especially those with a genetic basis – cancer and inherited diseases. CMRI’s scientists tackle the most difficult problems, addressing key areas of unmet need in children’s health with the aim of curing conditions that are currently incurable.

The Westmead Institute for Medical Research (WIMR)

WIMR is a leading Australian medical research institute, pioneering breakthroughs in the prevention, treatment and cure of some of the most serious health issues affecting Australians, and people throughout the world. Medical research conducted at WIMR is recognised as innovative, progressive and impactful. Located within the Westmead Health Precinct, WIMR’s impact is global.

NSW Health Pathology

NSW Health Pathology is Australia’s largest public pathology service and Westmead is home to our Institute of Clinical Pathology and Medical Research (ICPMR), where many of our expert scientists conduct world-leading research into infectious diseases, thrombosis and immunology. NSW Health Pathology provides a link between clinical diagnosis and the ground breaking research taking place within the Westmead Health Precinct.

Due to Westmead's size, contribution and strategic significance, the Westmead Health Precinct works with several state government agencies, including Transport for NSW, Investment NSW, the Office for Health and Medical Research and more.

Viral Vector Manufacturing Facility (VVMF)

VVMF is an Australian Contract Development Manufacturing Organisation (CDMO) dedicated to providing services in the research, design, development, and manufacture of lentiviral (rLV) and adeno-associated viral (rAAV) vectors for advanced therapeutic applications. Located in Sydney’s Westmead Health Precinct, VVMF partners with researchers, clinicians, and bio-pharma companies to accelerate the path to market for cell and gene therapies to patients. Viral vectors play a crucial role in delivering genetic material into cells and are central to innovative treatments in areas of medicine including cancers and rare diseases.

University of Sydney

Immersed in Westmead Health Precinct environments, students complete courses in dentistry, nursing, medicine, health science and applied sciences. With state-of-the-art technologies and simulated clinical environments, the University of Sydney consistently ranks as one of the top universities for medicine and health in Australia and around the world.

Their research centres at Westmead are dedicated to partnering with hospitals to understand and solve the world’s biggest healthcare challenges, pushing medical and health boundaries to shape tomorrow. They are committed to working collectively with our local partners to deliver excellence in health and research in the region.

National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS)

The National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS) is Australia’s leading organisation in immunisation and vaccines. NCIRS provides expert advice to support evidence-informed immunisation policy and guideline development; evaluation of immunisation programs, particularly the National Immunisation Program; and the monitoring of vaccine-preventable diseases, vaccine coverage, and factors impacting vaccine uptake and vaccine safety. The organisation is nationally and internationally recognised in these arenas and has a growing program of global health work focused on the provision of technical support for immunisation system strengthening to countries in Asia and the Pacific.

The HealthTech Hub is powered by NSW Government and is home to early stage health companies, a space for collaboration and commercialisation activation, and a landing pad for industry seeking solutions to their research and business challenges.
